KESTREL BAGS
Kestrel was a brand specializing in everyday bags and travel bags. The brand featured hand drawn prints in unique colorways. It was sold in retailers such as Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and more.
The Process
In the first year of the brand launch, Sienna Gilliam and I worked directly together to hand draw and repeat the prints and design the bags. It was a combination of original artwork and purchased vintage artwork that we redrew, repeated and transformed into something new. I chose and purchased the leather for each season and designed bags using raw textiles.
In the years following, I took over the design of the prints/repeats and design of the bags. I worked directly with the brand director, Marcia Scherer, the director of New Business Strategy, Sarah Phan, and sales lead, Susannah Fuller, to finalize the line for the season. Then with the Director of Marketing, Malia O’Brien, we developed the look of the shoot for the season, scouted locations, art directed the shoots and created the lookbook.

I redrew purchased vintage floral artwork, and layered it over our Kestrel stripe pattern (drawn and repeated by Sienna Gilliam) to create a new pattern. I then repeated the complex pattern.
I purchased the floral from a print studio, recolored it and overlayed it on a stripe pattern I designed.
